ABSTRACT

Reminiscences about these investigations were published abroad already in the 1970s, when Soviet specialists were not allowed to publish their works freely.

Foreign authors [84] point out that Professor P. Tissen designed a prototype of a diffusion setup, which was assembled in 1949 at a plant in VerkhNeivinskiy. He worked in Sinop (Institute A) and got a permission to manufacture a difftision setup which provided 50-90% enrichment of 2 3 5 U . Later he was involved in the development of a gas centrifuge. In [84] the contribution of the German scientists is obviously overestimated. The contributions of the Soviet and German scientists to solving the problem of producing highly enriched 2 3 5 U were described in detail in a book by Professor N . M . Sinev, an active founder of this technology [28], and in a review by Professor N.P . Galkin [90], who was engaged at Plant No. 12 in Elektrostal, headed the Central Plant Laboratory in Glazov, headed the Scientific and Engineering Department at the Ministry of Medium Machine Building Industry, and later headed a section at the All-Union Institute of Chemical Technology.
