Introduction Recently, high efficient white LEDs have been developed and manufactured. These LEDs are expected to be applied for lighting devices that have the advantage of small shape, low power consumption and simple circuit design. But a Bullet type or a SMD type of LED has very low light output, to get sufficient intensity for lighting application, a lot of LEDs are needed for the LED array luminaire. The cost of the LED luminaire becomes higher. To get higher lumen output by less number of LEDs, it is conceivable to input higher current to each LED. But higher input current causes higher temperature of LED chip, and it results in lower efficiency and shorter life of LED. To increase the input current to a LED chip, the heat radiation from the junction of the LED chip to the board is important. In this time, we report that the high power LED unit for lighting using the high heat radiation board that we developed.
