ABSTRACT

NumeLiTe [1]. The aim of this project is the global study of the complex structure formed by an urban lighting system (lamp, ballast, reflector ...) and the interactions between its components. A very substantial energy saving could be carried out if it would be possible to supply this type of lamp with a variable power ballast [2]. However, the power variation applied to gas-discharge lamps presents some difficulties: arc conservation, hot re-ignition, but also change of the spectral distribution. Thus, it is essential to study the impact of these various power levels on the light quality that is produced.
