ABSTRACT

Plant conservation genetics is an emerging area of science. The narrowest definition of plant conservation genetics encompasses the analysis of wild populations of rare or endangered plants to understand the factors influencing the sustainability of the diversity within the species and of the species itself. Wider definitions include any study of plant genetics that could improve the understanding of the relationships between plants either wild or cultivated because this information is almost always likely to be useful in conservation of genetic diversity.
