Abstract: A theoretical analysis of the in-line method of x-ray phase-contrast imaging with the incident monochromatic plane wave is presented. Based on the Fresnel integral, the phase-contrast images at different object-to-image distances are numerically simulated. According to the transport-intensity-equation, numeric examples of phase retrieval using simulated data are also given and the results indicate that the object-to-image distance is a very important parameter.
