Abstract. Generation of a uniform axial line-focus has been demonstrated by a binary-phase Fresnel zone plate coupled with a conventional lens. The optical system is tested using an ultrashort-pulse laser. The results show that such a line focus system can be used in the x-ray laser experiments.
