ABSTRACT
Significant advances in the understanding of both the beneficial and detrimental roles of specific genes in disease have stimulated the latest trend in biotherapeutics development: managing diseases by managing gene expression (1). Compounds affecting transcription are now entering drug development phase and more are in drug discovery stage. The present challenge to identifying gene expression-based therapeutics is to develop a reliable and reproducible screening method so that chemical libraries, natural products and synthetic chemicals can be screened for lead discovery and optimization.
