ABSTRACT
A prestressed concrete bridge deck consists principally of a top slab, webs and a bottom fl ange. Each of these elements can be rationally sized, with reasons for the choice of each dimension. The dimensions may be the result of analysis, or governed by considerations of buildability; they should never be the result of preconceived ideas.
