ABSTRACT

Estimating an asphalt pavement consists of determining the amount and type of materials needed for a project. An estimate of the amount of material needed for a project will provide the owner of the facility with what the expected cost of the project should be. Estimating the material quantities prior to beginning the project will help ensure that the owner receives what is being paid for. The process and detail of construction estimating is enough of a subject, that it is often covered by its own text. Throughout the chapters in this book are various examples of determining material quantities. The purpose of discussing estimation in this text is to provide the reader with enough information to determine how much asphalt material would be required for a project. Estimating material quantities for drainage structures, lighting, traffic control devices, parking barriers, and other related transportation materials is beyond the scope of this text. That information is often available in separate texts on construction estimating.
