ABSTRACT
Capillaries 100 m long and longer could be applied because of the relatively low pressure drop in such a column type, especially when a light carrier gas such as hydrogen is used. In these bore capillaries the diffusion path lengths during the mass transfer of analytes between the gas phase of high diffusivity and the stationary phase on the walls were relatively short, resulting in very high theoretical plate numbers.
