HREM analysis of ∑3 {112} boundaries in gold bicrystal films

The Stuttgart ARM microscope operates at a high voltage of 1250kV with a point-topoint resolution limit of ~ 0.12nm as can be seen in the contrast transfer function (CTF) of fig. la. Images of the gold foil, such as the one shown in fig. 2a, may bear a fairly close resemblance to the actual structure of the boundaries as the {220} spacing of 0.144 nm lies within this limit.
