The observations of Widmanstätten γ precipates in a duplex stainless steel

ABSTRACT A summary of TEM data on the morphology and crystallography of Widmanstatten γ particles in a commercial duplex stainless steel, Zeron-100 is presented. The γ particles exhibit an elongated lath-like morphology, and are bounded by two well-defined planar interfaces. The orientation relationship between the γ particles and the a matrix is close to the Kurdjumov-Sachs orientation relationship (K-S OR) with an average deviation of «1.0°. The interfacial planes are oriented parallel to {3.1, 3.5, 5.5 }γ and {0, 1, 1.2}γ, both interfaces contain arrays of line defects and, in each case, these lie parallel to the major axis of the lath.
