ABSTRACT

Repeated attempts have been made to develop new and improved FRC systems, which go beyond the more conventional approach of changing the type and properties of the fibre. Such composites cannot be classified simply in terms of the fibre type, as was shown in Chapters 7 to 11. Some of these novel systems are presented and discussed in the present chapter. They include tri-phase composites (hybrid fibre systems and polymer-cement matrices), composites with a high strength cementitious matrix, systems which incorporate high volume and high aspect ratio fibres, and composites with an adjustable fibrematrix bond.
