ABSTRACT
All too often, in the press of perfonning brachytherapy procedures and the quality control involved with them, the applicators used in the procedure become taken for granted. Yet, the applicators play as important a role in the treatment as the sources or the treatment plan. Most of the quality assurance for brachytherapy applicators takes relatively little time while potentially preventing serious injury to the patient. Unless noted otherwise, the checks for applicator integrity should be performed before each use, usually at the time of packaging for sterilization.
