ABSTRACT

The design of vacuum systems is in many respects determined by the properties of the materials used. In addition to the usual requirements of durability, adaptability to manufacture, low weight, etc., the materials used in vacuum engineering are required to provide:

1. the vapor pressure of the material at working temperature should be much lower than the working pressure;

2. the gas evolution of the material in operating conditions should be minimum; 3. vacuum tightness at small thickness; 4. corrosion resistance; 5. the absence of creep at temperatures from 500 to 600°C; 6. non-magnetic property.
