ABSTRACT

A tree belt is an interesting solution to achieve road trafc noise reduction. Noise shielding is obtained as a combination of multiple scattering by mainly the tree trunk layer (direct effect) and the presence of a forest oor (indirect effect). In Section 5.2, guidelines are provided to optimise noise shielding by non-deep tree belts along roads. Non-deep belts require less land and can be easier to apply. Predicted noise reductions in a typical road trafc situation are presented.
