ABSTRACT

As mentioned earlier, TCP/IP and routers are two key technologies for today’s Internet. With routers, various types of networks can be linked together to form the Internet. During a routing process, a router can find the shortest path to a destination network. The router can identify a network host with a destination IP address and knows where to find the destination network host. It can also deliver data packets from one network to another network where the data packets may be framed differently. Therefore, the router is considered by many as a complicated network device.
