ABSTRACT
The Z535 series of standards has been devised in response to various needs, and it has evolved over time (see Fig. 34.1).
The following sections will examine the history, nature, and purpose of the standards that predated the 1991 edition of the Z535 standards. This background should contribute to a better understanding of the strengths and limitations of the Z535 standards and promote greater understanding of what the standards can and are designed to accomplish.
