ABSTRACT

As one of the consequences of the major fireworks’ accident in May 2000 in Enschede (The Netherlands) (Ale 2002), the Dutch Government decided to establish a registration of activities involving hazardous substances which can cause a major accident. For this purpose an Internet application called ‘Register for risk situations involving hazardous substances’ (further called ‘RRGS’) was built. In the RRGS competent authorities can submit data on establishments handling, storing or processing dangerous materials as well as on transportation of such materials.
