ABSTRACT

A novel approach to the simulation of conventional (drill and blast) construction is presented. The simulation is based on the Boundary Element Method, which has the main advantage that only the excavation boundary has to be discretized and the infinite domain is implicitly considered. The simulation software BEFE++ consisting of the preprocessor and the simulation program is presented. Test examples demonstrate that results comparable and even better than with existing software can be obtained. Finally a practical application is shown.
