ABSTRACT

Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean with an area of 9250 km2. It has an intense climate with very hot, dry summers (when the inland temperatures frequently exceed 40°C) and cooler, rainy, rather changeable winters, separated by short spring and autumn seasons. Snow falls frequently every winter in the Troodos mountains on ground over 1000 m above sea level. These falls usually commence in December and continue through until the end of April.
