ABSTRACT

After inspection of the bridge deck, no visible damage to the concrete as a result of the accident was found. In the corbellings there were many old cracks through which water was seeping.

Main Girders

The first two main girders at the east side were considerably deformed

from the pier onwards to the middle of the structure. The deformation was both axial and vertical. The cover plates near the point of impact had slid and loosened from the web of both girders, thus causing the cracking of the welding seams situated at the lower part of the cover plates.
