ABSTRACT

Abstract An investigation was made to determine the nature, the extent and the significance of the problems of concrete deterioration of the Reinforced Concrete Shell Roof at an Industrial Plant. Automated monitoring processes were established to monitor the physical movement of the structure to serve as an advance warning to possible structural failure. The original design philosophy was reviewed and analysis was carried out to assess the possible ultimate strength of the structure and to plan a load test of the roof structure. The test was described and the results were discussed. Keywords: concrete deterioration, shell roof, structural monitoring, proof load test.
