ABSTRACT

In order to evaluate the coating systems, an index of weather resistance and an index of salt resistance are necessary. An index of weather resistance can be determined by colour change, adhesive strength and surface deterioration, and so on. In cold regions, needless to say, the freeze resistance is also important. An index of salt resistance can be determined by the ability to prevent chloride and oxygen intruding into the concrete. In order to evaluate this ability, electro-chemical measurements used in this study or the diffusion cell test are effective. As an evaluation diagram, the authors suggest the example shown in Fig.20. As shown in this figure, the diagram is divided into four zones and coating systems are classificated into three ranks. In this paper, it has not been possible to suggest numerical indexes for weather resistance and salt resistance.
