ABSTRACT

A summary of the results is given in Table 3. The results are reported in terms of ultimate load, midspan deflection, notch opening, and free-end slip of bar.

specimen span (in.)

load1 (lb)

deflection2 (mil)

notch opening3 (mil)

left slip4 (mil)

right slip5 (mil)

Table 4 shows the results in terms of ultimate bending moment, ultimate nominal normal stress, ultimate nominal bond stress, and slip at the loaded and free ends of the rebar. The normal and bond stresses were calculated from the equilibrium conditions at the section of maximum bending moment and assuming cracked section. The slip at the loaded end of the bar is the average of the slip at both faces of the notch. It was calculated as the notch opening minus the deformation due to normal stresses in the rebar. The slip at the free end of the rebars is the average of the values of slip at both ends.
