ABSTRACT

No standard test procedures for this property are known to exist but a suitable method under ambient conditions was devised and this has been submitted to the British Standards Institution as a draft for public comment (8). The tests were undertaken on prismatic specimens 40mm square×160mm long cast and cured in an identical manner to that of compression modulus specimens. Following full cure, each specimen was fitted with two 140mm long acoustic vibrating wire strain gauges and individually placed in axial alignment above or below the flat jacks of a loading apparatus. The specimens ranged in age between 28 and 33 days at the start of the test which was undertaken in the same out-building as that previously referred to. All specimens were loaded to 10N/mm2 at 1N/mm2/minute. Records of creep were regularly taken over a period of 15 months, during which time minor pressure fluctuations were corrected.
