ABSTRACT

The first of these criteria has been calculated by Englfried(6) to give a sufficiently low rate of carbonation to give an adequate life for a normal structure with typical cover depths. It may not be adequate where the carbonation zone has nearly reached the level of the reinforcement. Vapour transmission rates through various building materials for walls and the like have been used as a criteria for ‘breathability’ of concrete. These criteria are only guide values and have not been set as a result of intensive research.
