ABSTRACT
Durable reinforced concrete must therefore be designed to resist carbonation and to exclude chlorides from any source. Reinforcing steel should be embedded in concrete specified in accordance with BS 8110 (4). In particular the mix design and minimum cover prescribed must be observed. In many cases this will provide sufficient corrosion protection to the steel, provided that the concrete is correctly placed, compacted and cured and that the specified cover is obtained in practice.
