ABSTRACT

Thorax with pronotum narrower than the elytra, sides bluntly margined and slightly crenulated, narrower in front, sinuate laterally, notopleural suture prominent; prosternum moderately long in front of coxae, with a broad, flat intercoxal process which extends posteriorly and abuts on the metasternal process; mesocoxae widely separated, cavities open laterally and meeting both mesepimeron and metepisternum; metasternum short, metacoxae meet elytra laterally; legs slender, without long setae; tarsi 5-5-5, stout, each tarsomere simple, last tarsomere as long as the preceding three combined; claws simple, arising from central cavity at apex of tarsus; elytra broad, constricted anteriorly, tapering behind, slightly margined laterally, striae very weak, usually rugose; well-developed wings with venation typically adephageous, but closer to Dytiscidae than Carabidae,

oblong cell and wedge cell present, cubitus visible only as a trace beyond the oblong cell; metafurca very small and flight musculature degenerated.
