ABSTRACT

Incompressible flow past the plate P in the domain D = 3i2 \ P is governed by the non-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations, which can be written in the form

This is a nonlinear system of two equations for the two unknown components up , vp of the velocity u p . Since there is only one second order derivative in the first differential equation in (Pp), this is a parabolic equation in contrast to the elliptic equation in (Pns)- From Prandtl’s work it is known that the solution of (Pp) is a good approximation to the solution of (Pns) in a subdomain excluding the leading edge region, provided that the flow remains laminar and that no separation occurs.
