ABSTRACT
Our feed grains are treated as commodities. Com is used not only as a feed, but as a food and for a variety of industrial uses. The Iowa Com Promotion Board states that there are over 3000 uses for com, and a vast majority of these come from the same yellow dent that is used to feed livestock (Anonymous, 1988). Because com is used in many ways, the farmer generally has not been paid on the basis of composition, but on the basis of weight delivered to the elevator.
