ABSTRACT

Systems analysis is both a philosophical approach and a collection o f techniques, including simulation, developed explicitly to address problems dealing with complex systems. System analysis emphasises an holistic approach to problem solving and the use o f mathematical models to identify and simulate important characteristics o f complex systems. In the simplest sense a system is any set o f objects that interact. A mathematical model is a set o f equations that describes the interrelationships among these objects. By solving the equations comprising a mathematical model we can mimic or simulate, the dynamic (time-varying) behaviour o f the system.
