ABSTRACT
A ground investigation is undertaken to determine ,vertical and horizontal variations in ground type and ground properties which include the in-situ stress conditions, deformation and strength parameters and parameters defining time-dependent behaviour. A design engineer can then make a prediction of the behaviour of the ground when it is subject to any change such as that caused by unloading or loading.
