ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION Subchronic toxicity studies are defined as toxicity studies ranging in length from several days up to 20% of the animal’s expected life span. The subchronic toxicity study is one of the first studies done to assess the toxicological effects of repeated dosing with a test compound. Studies are typically designed following guidelines established by the regulatory agencies (DHHS, 1985; FDA, 1987; OECD, 1993); therefore, study de sign is fairly consistent.
