ABSTRACT

The effects of limited irrigation on seedling vigor of winter wheat on the Loess Plateau was determined in a field experiment using rain-sheltered field plots during 1995-96. The study revealed that under the same environment, seedling vigor is associated with irrigation, most of the vigor index (LA; LAI; SLA; LAR; biomass and RGR) values tended to increase as irrigation increased. Water deficit limited leaf enlargement, increased leaf thickness, decreased drymatter accumulation and RGR. Compensatory growth reaction was found after shooting period under condition of light water deficit. Correlation analysis showed that there is a significant correlation between SLA, ULR, LAR and irrigating quality.
