ABSTRACT

Abstract Tests have been carried out on twentyeight connection specimens. The specimens consisted of steel beams connected to columns made of concrete-filled steel tubes. The results reported here are for a series of eight specimens in which the columns were made of a steel rectangular hollow section 150x150x5 RHS. The beams were connected to the columns by means of 'finplates' which were welded to the middle of the side wall of the hollow section. In each test, loads were applied to both column and beams in order to simulate actual column loading in structures. The beams were loaded symmetrically, and the beam load was kept as a proportion of the column load. The columns were about 3m long, and thus represented a floor height in typical structures.
