ABSTRACT
When being tested, and up to the specimen failure loads, no yield in the steel section was visible in the lower half of the specimens, and the recorded strains were well within the elastic values. The material properties of steel were therefore obtained from coupons cut from the lower ends of the columns. Table 1 gives the material properties of all specimens in which the concrete cube strength, fcu , and cylinder strength, fcY' are the average results obtained from testing four lOOmm cubes and two 150mm solid cylinders respectively.
