ABSTRACT
In this paper a method is presented for derivation of bit ratios that limit buckling in the pre-and post yield stages of plate loading. This will be used to determine the capacity of tubes filled with a rigid material such as concrete. It will be shown that the ductility of several commonly used hot rolled sections can be improved by this means and that the rolling or cold-forming of more slender tubes could be economical.
