ABSTRACT
In practice this causes some discontinuity problems because a plate with an aspect ratio just less than the elastic buckling limit would, theoretically, have almost an infinite buckling resistance as the wavelength would be very small. To overcome this the wavelength of the plate is back calculated from that associated with the yield condition that has been modified for residual stresses and imperfections, point A in Fig. 2, and then increased by 15%.
