4 Comparison with previous analysis results The authors (1987) have reported the calculation results based on the upper-bound theorem for this problem, using an approximate yield condition derived for sandwich shells by Hodge (1959). The approximate yield condition is a polyhedron composed of twelve hyperplanes which is inscribed in the exact yield hypersurface. Fig.9 shows the comparison between the two analyses in the case of 00=40 and 100. The collapse load obtained in the previous paper is higher than the one in this paper. However, the tendency of the increase in f with the increase in +« in the previous paper is nearly equal to that in this paper as +a values are large.
