ABSTRACT

T=O.8). This mesh represents half a multiplanar K-joint specimen as a plane of symmetry exists at an angle of 45 0 through the two corners of the chord member. The semi-loof shell element was used for both the chord and brace members. The semi-loof shell elements have translational degrees of freedom at each node with semiloof rotations about the loof points on each side of the element. The welds were modelled using solid elements. The solid elements have translational degrees of freedom only at each node. The incompatibility between the solid elements and the bending freedoms of the shells is not important from a structural point of view as the weld elements are only present to ensure the correct load path between the brace and chord elements.
