ABSTRACT

Abstract This paper gives a case study of the redevelopment of the Melbourne Cricket Ground South Stand, with emphasis on the lightweight tubular steel roof structure. It gives some general background to the project as a whole, it's conception and the successful way the severe constraints imposed on the design team were tackled by adopting well thought out concepts and implementing them efficiently. The fast track programme coupled with the technical demands of the project required the constructor to be involved with the design team at an early stage. The paper discusses the tendering process, the design team novation and the subsequent relationship of the parties forming the construction team, which bridged the traditional divide between the designers and contractor. Keywords: Melbourne Cricket Ground (MOO), Tube steel roof, Tolerances, Erection, Analysis, Design, Circular Hollow Section.
