ABSTRACT
Surface settlements brought about by shallow tunnels in soft ground may cause serious damage to existing structures, thus, it is often necessary to estimate the quantitative values of the settlements. The main factors causing such settlements are: mechanical properties of the ground, geometrical relationships between the tunnels and the ground surface, and the tunnel construction method.
