ABSTRACT
Materials-related problems in the automotive industry can be broadly categorized as developing and characterizing new or improved materials, monitoring processes, and understanding the causes for lack of performance. Successful characterization involves meeting with people to fully understand the problem, searching for information on what has already been done on this problem or related problems, conducting the analyses, and conveying results and their interpretation to those who posed the initial problem or question.
