ABSTRACT

Natural resource-based industries tend to form clusters through the colocation of producing firms in definable geographical spaces. In large part this is due to site-specific characteristics. Since the peoples of Shiraz developed wines for export and the ancient Greeks and Romans spread these varieties to selected sites in what became Italy, France, Spain, and Germany, attention has been paid to “terroir” and to the best varieties of grapes to grow under these specific soil and climatic conditions.
