ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the determination of metals in various types of aqueous precipitation. This includes rainwater, fog, mists, snow and ice.

5.1 Rainw ater

The determination of trace elements in rainwater is becoming increasingly important. Rainfall has proved to be an exceptional form of deposition for trace-element input from the atmosphere to terrestrial and aquatic environments. In addition to the input of acid through rainwater, many heavy metals contribute to the hazards and destruction of forests, lakes, and coastal waters.
