Introduction

As in the first edition, the central focus of this book is on a macroscopic description

of superconductors based on Maxwel l ' s equations. This description is used to

develop exact expressions for the power and energy loss percycle, and approximate

evaluations of the loss expressions are given for various problems. Most, but not

all, of the problems are concerned with ac loss in a wire or "slab" subjected to a

transverse applied magnetic held.
