ABSTRACT

Semiconductors are the dominant material used in electronics and optoelectronics, and they enjoy a technological maturity that gives them advantages over other materials when they are considered for new uses. For photorefractive applications, semiconductors have the additional advantage of large carrier mobilities that produces fast dielectric response times. Fast dielectric response times are important for fast imaging processing, and photorefractive semiconductors therefore complement the photorefractive ferroelectrics, with the potential for fast holographic processing of optical information.
