ABSTRACT
The use of both natural and artificial pozzolanas is very old and the good condition of many ancient structures still in service nowadays are the best evidence of the excellent performance of pozzolanic binders. Pozzolanic binders met with a large success in the past owing to some enhanced properties they had as compared to other customary binders, such as lime and plaster. As a matter of fact they:
• harden under water, • have higher strength, • have higher resistance to aggressive environments.
