ABSTRACT

The general aim of this project is to maximize the participation of individuals of all ages with disabilities in activities of work and daily living. The specific aim of this project is to develop a Model System for applying ergonomic technologies to accommodate disabled workers. The Model System will include procedures for assessing workers, analysing jobs, identifying accommodation needs and selecting appropriate interventions (ergonomic interventions, work/worksite modifications, assistive technologies, and medical interventions). The Model will be implemented in a database that will be made available to others as a Web-based product. Evaluation of the Model System approach will be used in an iterative fashion for Model refinement. The project, and the Model System, are intended to encompass physical disabilities from all causes (e.g. low back pain, lower extremity problems), but this presentation will focus on the upper extremities.
